Welcome
We kicked of the month of May exhibiting at the annual BTTB Australia 2009 event held at Australian Technology Park Sydney. It was an extremely successful event allowing us the opportunity to showcase Travelcorp. One of the highlights was Natasha Brawn - Travelcorp Account Manager - partaking in a forum on “What is good account management”.
The event concluded with the BTTB dinner held at the Sofitel Sydney. ABB Australia was recognised for their travel programme and won the BTTB Travel Management Awards for 2009 (large account). We are proud to look after ABB Australia and to be a part of the successful win.
We are also thrilled to be Finalist again this year in the category of Best Travel Agency Corporate – Multi Location for the National Travel Industry Awards 2009.
Finally, Travelcorp conducted a telephone and email survey throughout the months of April and May. Thank you to everyone who participated, your feedback is important to us. As we start to analyse the information collected we will implement the changes you requested to ensure we continue to improve the level of service we deliver to all of you.

Travelcorp, Thai Airways & Imaginative Traveller
Travelcorp along with Thai Airways International and Imaginative Traveller were once again the major sponsors of the annual Bollywood Masala Film Festival at Luna Cinemas in Perth.
Jennifer Connolly (pictured, with Travelcorp’s Vanessa Weigall and Thai Airways’ Debra Matthews) won a trip for two to India flying smooth as silk with Thai Airways International plus Imaginative Traveller's 12-day 'Classic India' tour. The tour of India includes the highlights of Rajasthan and beyond; Agra and the Taj Mahal, the Pink City of Jaipur, the former Moghul capital of Fatehpur Sikri, the mediaeval and sensuous temples of Khajuraho and spiritual Varanasi on the Holy Ganges River, with it's myriad of bathing ghats and funeral pyres.
The festival was, as always, fabulous fun. Opening and closing night parties were immediate sell-outs, with amazing costumes and sensational dancing on stage before the films started – and that was just the audience! There were also some great films to be viewed including of course Slumdog Millionaire for those who missed the free Travelcorp preview screening, well before the film was officially released in Australia.

2009 AIOP OFFICE PROFESSIONAL OF THE YEAR AWARDS
The Australian Institute of Office Professionals’ (AIOP) WA Division announced its 2009 Office Professional of the Year Awards at a gala breakfast held on Friday 1 May 2009 in the BelleVue Ballroom at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
The theme for this year’s breakfast was “Beyond Tomorrow”. Approximately 400 office professionals and executives attended to celebrate the contributions made by business support staff and to honour the three winners of this year’s awards.
The Awards were sponsored by Croissant Express (Division Gold Sponsor), Relish Gourmet (Division Silver Sponsor) and Travelcorp (Division Bronze Sponsor). Supporting sponsors included: Office National Booragoon, Go Networking, Sheraton Perth Hotel, Rom Designs, Duxton Hotel Perth, IQPC, Sofitel Wentworth Sydney and Corporate Arrangements. AIOP WA Division is thankful for the support provided by these organisations, without whose contributions the Awards would not be possible.
The calibre of entrants for the Awards is always exceptionally high and this year was no exception. All finalists exhibited outstanding qualities, again making the judges’ decision extremely difficult. Judges this year were Barbara Etter, WA Division Patron and Assistant Commissioner for Police; Jonathan Huston, Executive Director Croissant Express and Tracey Hodgins, CEO Australian Experiential Learning Centre.
The Award Winners are:
Major award winner 2009 Office Professional of the Year – Elizabeth McFerran.
Elizabeth is an Administrator at Schlumberger.
2009 Young Office Professional of the Year – Elizabeth May.
Elizabeth is Sales Support Coordinator at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre.
2009 Office Professional of the Year – Judges’ Award – Christie Fordyce.
Christie is Office Administrator for Momentum Partners (Australia).
As everyone will agree, PAs, secretaries, executive assistants, executive officers and all office administrators are the lynch pin in any business, providing a very diverse range of attributes, including strong organisational and customer service skills which enhance the operations of senior management.
Since inception, AIOP has actively assisted its members by promoting continuous personal and professional development and facilitating education and training opportunities. AIOP is the only national professional body for office professionals in Australia with the aim of improving their profile within the Australian business community. The Awards are one way in which the Institute is able to honour the contributions made to our profession by outstanding individuals who demonstrate a passion and dedication for the work which they perform.
The Office Professional of the Year Awards recognise the professionalism and experience of practitioners within the business community in both government and private sector organisations. The Awards give employers or colleagues the opportunity to nominate a special person in their workplace for either the Office Professional of the Year Award or the Young Office Professional Award to recognise the contributions office professionals make to their organisations.
Next year’s Office Professional of the Year Awards will be announced at the 2010 AIOP Office Professionals Day Breakfast on Friday 7 May 2010. Mark it in your diary now. Nominations for the Awards will be accepted from February 2010. Visit the AIOP website for full details and nomination forms. www.aiop.com.au/wa/wapage.html. Two Lovers
Starts Thursday 4th June at CINEMA PARADISO
Set in the insular world of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, Two Lovers is a classic romantic drama, with Joaquin Phoenix giving a raw and vulnerable performance as Leonard, a charismatic but troubled young man who moves back into his childhood home following a recent heartbreak. While recovering under the watchful eye of his parents (Isabella Rossellini and Moni Monoshov), Leonard meets two women in quick succession: Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), a mysterious and beautiful neighbor who is exotic and out-of-place in Leonard's staid world, and Sandra (Vinessa Shaw), the lovely and caring daughter of a businessman who is buying out his family's dry-cleaning business. Leonard becomes deeply infatuated by Michelle, who seems poised to fall for him, but is having a self-destructive affair with a married man. At the same time, mounting pressure from his family pushes him towards committing to Sandra. Leonard is forced to make an impossible decision – between the impetuousness of desire and the comfort of love – or risk falling back into the darkness that nearly killed him.
Merchant of Venice
Starts Thursday 11th June at CINEMA PARADISO
Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee and BAFTA winner Michael Radford (Il Postino, The Letters), The Merchant of Venice is set in 16th century Venice and is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s timeless comedy/drama. Antonio (Jeremy Irons) borrows money from Shylock (Al Pacino) to help his young penniless friend Bassanio (Joseph Fiennes) in his quest to win the hand of the fair Portia. Bitter at Antonio’s insults, Shylock stipulates very specific terms if he defaults on the loan. As Antonio’s shipping business is devastated by storms, Shylock is further angered by his daughter’s elopement with the nobleman Lorenzo. The loan falls due and Shylock claims his forfeit in the form of a pound of Antonio’s flesh. As Bassanio desperately tries to save Antonio from this fate, miraculous help comes from an unexpected quarter.
Disgrace
Starts Thursday 18th June at CINEMA PARADISO
David Lurie (John Malkovich), twice-divorced and dissatisfied with his job as an English professor in post-apartheid South Africa, finds his life falling apart. When he seduces one of his students, and in doing nothing to protect himself from the consequences, he is dismissed from his teaching position, and takes refuge on his daughter's farm in the Eastern Cape. For a time, his daughter's influence and natural rhythms of the farm promise to harmonise his discordant life. But the balance of power in the country is shifting. In the aftermath of a vicious attack on the farm, he is forced to come to terms with more than his disgrace alone.
